95% of freshwater fish imported to the UK are captive bred however there are many critically endangered or difficult to breed species that are still stolen from the wild for the pet trade.

Here at Pholium our aim is to provide an ethical solution to wild caught fish by breeding these hard to breed or endangered species.

Many of these wild fish are imported from tropical countries and have a significant carbon footprint attached. They often land at the local fish shop after several weeks of not feeding and laden with parasites.
